Origins

The national gem of Scotland, mined by the ancient Celts in the Cairngorm Mountains.

Used on Highland clothing, kilt pins and the handles of the traditional Scottish dress dagger.

Its colour is produced by natural irradiation within the rock during formation.

Regarded in Celtic tradition as a stone connected with the earth and the darker half of the year.

Product Description

This Mala brings together two distinct heritages in a single object. Smoky quartz, mined for centuries in the Scottish Highlands and worn on the person of Highland warriors, counted across 108 beads in a contemplative form that originates in the Indian subcontinent. Two traditions, two geographies, one considered composition.

The six millimetre stones are strung on deep garnet woven silk. The piece features eight millimetre sterling silver Chinese Fu marker beads and a ten millimetre Fu Guru bead. A discreet sterling screw clasp allows the Mala to be worn in three configurations.
